Counselling & Psychotherapy

I believe that you are the expert in your life and you will know what works best for you.  As a pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist, I am able to draw on different theories and techniques that provide me with the knowledge and understanding of what might work best for you. Using a range of methodologies and ‘working together’ means that your therapy session is unique to you, there is no ‘one size therapy that fits all’.  Benefitting from my pluralistic training, I am able to utilise the most suitable therapeutic techniques that will help you to identify and work towards realising your goals in life.

Counselling and psychotherapy can mean different things for different people, but in general it is a process people seek when they want to change something in their lives or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth; particularly if this is causing them distress.

Counselling and psychotherapy offer a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  It offers the opportunity for you to look at what is really going on in your life and to help make sense of any confusion or disorder you may be experiencing.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

In general, counselling is more likely to help with a specific difficulty, current problem or surface issue.  An example might include a bereavement or a difficulty that is not necessarily rooted in the past.  Psychotherapy is more likely to help with more deep-rooted difficulties that affect a client’s life.  Examples might include child abuse or trauma.  Counselling and psychotherapy however might help with either type of issue.

Benefits of Counselling

  • It can offer a supportive non-judgemental and confidential setting in which you can explore any issue.

  • It can help you see issues more objectively.

  • It can help you express your feelings and come to terms with past experiences.

  • It can help build self-esteem and confidence.

  • It can help you take control of your life and become more assertive.

  • It can improve communication.

  • It can help you to become more realistic in setting goals.
